International Agreement on jute and jute products, 1989
A Council Decision of 18 December 1990 (91/51/EEC) on the signing of the International Agreement on Jute and Jute products, 1989, states that the Community and its Member States shall sign in assent, simultaneously, no later than 31 December 1990. Objectives concern both exporting and importing members of the International Jute Organization (IJO) and encompass, inter alia, RTD towards: Agricultural productivity and fibre quality; processing of existing and new products; new end uses and the improvement of existing products; increased and further processing of jute (raw jute, kenaf and allied fibres, including Urena lobata, Abutilon avicennae and Cephalonema polyandrum) and its products. The highest authority of the IJO, the International Jute Council, shall identify, arrange for the preparation and implementation of, monitor and evaluate research projects on a continuing basis.
