CORDIS Regional Gateway welcomes improved research and innovation service on Catalonia
CORDIS, the Community Research and Development Information Service, is now hosting a revamped service on research and innovation activities in Catalonia, Spain. The improved service, developed by the Catalonian Ministry of Universities, Research and the Information Society, together with the CORDIS team, offers an insight into Catalonia's research and innovation strategy, and provides an introduction to activities and infrastructures in the region. Information is provided on developments such as Catalonia's strong contribution to Spanish efforts in the biomedical sector, and the growth of technology transfer activities in the region. Together with Baden-Württemberg in Germany, Rhône-Alpes in France and Lombardia in Italy, Catalonia has established a regional association known as 'Four Motors for Europe'. The service provides links to a large variety of higher education institutes, universities and research centres in a region where over 14,000 researchers work in the public and private sectors. It also outlines how regional grants for research are being distributed through Catalonia's Third Research Plan (2001-2004), a programme funding human resources, research centres and infrastructures, as well as international cooperation and technology transfer. Access to a map-based search of several CORDIS databases is provided, allowing users to retrieve information on Catalonian involvement in partnering initiatives, projects and results associated with the EU's research framework programmes. The improved interface aims to promote the research and innovation competences of Catalonia and further the region's cooperation with other European partners.
