Safety and health protection of workers in the extraction industries
The proposal for a Council Directive submitted on 21 December 1990 (COM (90) 663) lays down the minimum requirements for improving the safety and health protection of workers in the extractive industries (those industries defined by Council Decision 74/326/EEC of 27.6.74). Areas comprise: Obligations of the employer; requirements for improving the safety and health protection of workers concerned with the exploration for and exploitation of minerals by means of boreholes (requirements are fully set out in an Annex); other provisions. Member States shall comply with this Directive by 31 December 1992 and report to the Commission every five years on the practical implementation of its provisions.
