EIB supports innovation and R&D in an enlarged Europe
The European Investment Bank (EIB) is providing 100 million euro to support entrepreneurs in Hungary, Slovenia and Romania. The funds will be made available to small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as public and private agencies that are active in the diffusion of innovation, research and development, and information and communications networks. Other sectors supported include health and education, and social housing, energy, environmental protection, and general infrastructure. 'The development of small and medium-sized enterprises is important first of all in countries where the SME sector is not yet a deeply-rooted part of the economic scene,' said EIB President Philippe Maystadt. 'Global loan facility will provide an advantageous source of finance for the development of this sector that encourages entrepreneurship and represents an important source of job creation,' he added.
