The Commission has approved State aid for German electronics research schemes, investment in renewable energy sources in the New Laender and RTD in aerospace technology in Spain: - Germany (State Aid No N709/93): The programme "Displaytechnik" will provide assistance for fundamental research and basic industrial research in display technology. The long-term aim of the programme is to gain the know-how required to establish comprehensive overall solutions incorporating aspects of man-machine communication and providing additional basic technologies in the informatics field. The scheme, with an overall budget of ECU 34 million, will support scientific institutions and enterprises during the period 1994-1998. - Germany (State aid No N 667/93): Aid for basic research in micro- and optoelectronics on materials other than silicon. "Basistechnologien der informationstechnik" aims to support fundamental research and basic industrial research in this field, continuing an earlier programme approved by the Commission which lasted until the end of 1993. The present scheme covers the period 1994-1998 with an overall State budget of ECU 194 million. - Germany (State aid No 716/93): A one-year scheme for the support of renewable energy, "Foerdermassnahme fuer die Nutzung erneuerbarer Energien im Jahre 1994" is addressed to the strengthening of the market for techniques in the field of renewable energy, energy conservation, ecological relief and climate protection. It aims to bring renewable energy sources to full viability without subsidy through the support of installations in the four sectors of: Solar collector installations; geothermal installations; hydro-electric installations; and wind turbines. Beneficiaries of the scheme are private persons, enterprises and public bodies in the New Laender. The budget amounts to ECU 5 million during 1994. - Spain (State aid No 580/93): An aerospace RTD aid scheme provide loans repayable in the event of successful implementation of the research project in the aeronautical sector. The programme seeks to improve Spanish aerospace technology to meet the challenges of the next decade. An overall State budget of ECU 105 million will be dedicated to the scheme over the period 1993-1998.
