Raising awareness on the environment and sustainable development
The Commission plans to grant financial support for general measures to provide information and raise awareness in the context of the Community programme of policy and action in relation to the environment and sustainable development ("Towards Sustainability", OJ No C 138 of 17.5.1993). Total financial support of the order of ECU 5 million is available for these measures. The aim of the proposed measures is to help identify the responsibilities and encourage the active participation of the various actors concerned (economic operators, including trade-unions, regional or local authorities, environmental protection organizations and consumer defence organizations) in tackling environmental problems, and also to promote dialogue and cooperation between them. These measures should also ensure the more effective dissemination of information in this area by promoting exchanges of information and experiences. Projects submitted should generate a marked multiplier effect on a European scale, notably within the Community, and should have a direct transfrontier impact. They should bring about a lasting commitment by the partners concerned to ensure that their activities take account of environmental considerations and should entail effective and balanced cooperation between the various partners. In addition, they should as a priority demonstrate an integrated approach to the environment in one or more of the sectors of: Industry; energy; transport; agriculture or tourism. Proposals, containing all information specified in the call, must be submitted by registered mail to: European Commission Directorate-General for the Environment, Nuclear Safety and Civil Protection Unit XI/C-4 200 rue de la Loi (BU-5 00/183) B-1049 Brussels
