Director-General's China visit targets closer industrial cooperation
The Director-General of the Commission's Enterprise DG, Jean-Paul Mingasson, is in China in an attempt to deepen bilateral cooperation between Brussels and Beijing in industrial and regulatory affairs. Mr Mingasson's visit to the People's Republic is described by the Commission as 'an opportunity to put industrial competitiveness at the heart of international economic cooperation.' While there, he will chair the first plenary meeting of the EU-Chinese industrial policy dialogue, and meet business and industrial representatives at a seminar dedicated to improving Chinese partners' knowledge of the EU approach in the electrical and automotive sectors. The EU will seek assurances of increased transparency on draft policy or legislation from the Chinese government in order to develop greater coherence between their respective industrial policies, and efforts will also be made to develop a preventative dialogue on industrial policy, designed to solve contentious issues as they arise. Additional objectives include providing EU industry with a platform for discussions with Chinese authorities on approaches to automotive and electrical products legislation, and involving EU industry representatives in the direct policy dialogue set up between the EU and China in the textiles, automotive and metals sectors.
