Call for expressions of interest - establishment of a national digital research centre in Ireland
Ireland's Higher Education Authority has launched a call for expressions of interest for the establishment and management of a national digital media research and innovation centre at the National Digital Research Centre. The call is open to organisations outside Ireland. The growth of the digital media industry in Ireland has been identified as a significant opportunity by the Irish Government. Convergence of previously distinct industries including traditional content, media and entertainment, software and multimedia, and telecommunications, has resulted in the emergence of the digital media industry. The centre will have a strong industry input and affinity, married to an imperative for commercialisation, with a particular focus on Irish-based industry. There will be an emphasis on interdisciplinary research and innovation, and a focus on demonstrating solutions in an industry context. It is anticipated that the centre will provide a forum for international exchange and discussion. Research and innovation will combine content and technology dimensions and leverage technology trends in platforms such as wireless, broadband and Internet.
