The European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) has issued a call for tenders for the pre-decommissioning physical and radiological characterisation of closed nuclear installations at its Ispra site. The contract will contribute data towards decommissioning plans. These services will comprise a review of historical information and the survey of existing data, modelling and implementation of calculation methods, performance of in-situ measurements and/or sampling and analyses, review and evaluation of the data obtained. These services shall provide a database of information on the mass, volume and quantity and type of radionuclides present (including their distribution and physical and chemical states) for components, systems and construction structures of each nuclear installation. The physical characterisation will provide mass and volume data and will be based mainly on review of historical information available and retrievable from reference documentation and on in-situ inspections. The radiological characterisation will provide radiological data and shall be based on balanced use of: - survey of existing data; - computer codes already used and tested in similar installations; - non-destructive radiological analyses with radiometric and spectrometric systems, such as in-situ gamma spectrometry, in-situ gamma ray imaging systems (imaging systems for source localisation), hand-held systems for qualitative and quantitative determination of easy-to-measure radionuclides; - destructive radiological analyses for determination of hard-to-measure radionuclides and related nuclide vectors/scaling factors. For further information, please contact: European Commission JRC Ispra Site Attn: Mrs I.
