The Spanish region of the Canary Islands now has its own web site for research and innovation activities on CORDIS, the EU's official information service on research, technological development and innovation. The web service was developed jointly by CORDIS, the Technological Institute of the Canary Islands and the Southern Europe Innovation Relay Centre. The new service includes an introduction to the Canary Islands, their geography and political economy, with an emphasis on research and development (R&D) in the region. There are sections devoted to the Canaries' main areas of scientific research - including astrophysics, renewable energy and marine sciences - and to the available research infrastructure, such as centres for R&D and of regional technological excellence. A Canary Islands Development Plan to further improve and add to these infrastructures is profiled under 'scientific and technological agenda'. There is also a section detailing the EU support available for R&D for regional players, including CORDIS services to find partners, technology transfer opportunities and contacts, as well as up and running projects in the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6). The service is available in English and is part of the CORDIS Regional gateway, which now covers 33 European regions.
