CORDIS launches new Country Service for Norway
CORDIS, the EU's official information service on research, technological development and innovation, has launched its first national service for a non-EU Member State. The new country service for Norway is part of the CORDIS Gateway to National and Regional Activities. Norway is not a EU Member State but has very close relations with the Union within the framework of the European Economic Area (EEA). The EEA agreement allows Norway to participate in numerous EU programmes, including R&D initiatives. Norway's involvement with the EU's Research Framework Programmes began in the 1990s and has since evolved considerably. The country now participates extensively in FP6 and in the creation of a European Research and Innovation Area (ERA). It will also play a prominent role in the forthcoming Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). The new Associate Member State Service for Norway, developed in collaboration between CORDIS and the Research Council of Norway, is an introduction to EU-supported R&D and innovation activities in Norway. The service provides information about relevant news and events and gives an overview of the situation of research, development and innovation in Norway. There is also an analysis of Norway's involvement in EU research, FP6 and the development of the ERA, with links to relevant institutions providing further information. A special portal allows users to find organisations facilitating their partner search for projects in Norway. Finally, an extensive list of contacts and R&D stakeholders in the country is provided, covering different types of organisations ranging from Government Ministries and Universities to Centres of Excellence and R&D and Innovation Agencies. The national service for Norway provides policy information on R&D in Norway, its participation in EU programmes and on the role of Norway, as an associated country, in the European Union's research cooperation. Along with other CORDIS national services, the Norwegian information service aims to provide access to country-specific information and contacts, and contribute to increased coordination among EU Member States and associated countries.
