Ireland has a new Member State Service on CORDIS, the EU's official information service on research, technological development and innovation. The pages, which are part of the CORDIS Gateway to National and Regional Activities, replace the previous service, which had a particular focus on the Irish EU Presidency. The new Irish National Service now focuses primarily on national and regional research and development (R&D), and on innovation programmes and activities in Ireland. It has been developed specifically to develop and support the communication between Ireland and the EU in these areas. The CORDIS Member State Service for Ireland, which is maintained in cooperation with the Irish Ministry for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, is a gateway to EU-supported R&D and innovation activities in Ireland. The service provides information about relevant news and events and gives an overview of the situation of science, technology and R&D in the country. Furthermore, an analysis of Ireland's current involvement in EU R&D, in the Sixth Framework Programme and in the development of the European Research Area, is available. This service includes searchable databases for projects, results and technology offers that are particularly relevant for Ireland. A special portal allows users to find out about the Irish Innovation Relay Centre, which is based in Dublin, and maintains a number of technology transfer agreements, offers and requests. Visitors seeking further information can use the Irish Member State Service to find interesting contacts for R&D stakeholders in Ireland and to consult an extensive list of links to research councils and government R&D infrastructure. Finally, the service also provides an overview of the priorities, highlights and events of the Irish EU Presidency in the first semester of 2004, including an archive of documentation, press releases and other relevant information. The national service for Ireland provides policy information on R&D in Ireland, its participation in EU programmes and on the role of Ireland in the European Union's research cooperation. Along with other CORDIS national services, the Irish information service aims to provide access to country-specific information and contacts, and to contribute to increased coordination among EU Member States in the areas of R&D, science, technology and innovation.
