The following is a summary of the current calls for proposals and tender issued in the period up to 18 May 1994, concerning Community RTD within the Third Framework Programme and other related programmes

Third Framework Programme:

- ESPRIT:

No further calls for proposals will be published until the adoption of the Fourth Framework Programme. Lists of projects selected following the last ESPRIT call (OJ No 67 of 10.3.1993) and the results of the European System and Software Initiative (ESSI) supporting call (OJ No C 114 of 24.4.1993) are available on CORDIS RTD-News.

- RACE (RTD in the field of communications technologies):

The most recent call for proposals closed on 3.9.1993. The results of this call plus a listing of the selected projects are available on RTD-News.

- Telematic systems in areas of general interest (comprising DRIVE, DELTA, AIM, ENS, ORA, LIBRARIES and LRE):

In general, no further calls are expected under this programme until the Fourth Framework Programme.

. A call has been launched by DG XIII of the European Commission for proposals from existing programme partners and potential new participants for accompanying measures on telematics engineering (OJ No S 51 of 15.3.1994). Closes on 15.6.1994.

. TURA (Telematics for Urban Areas):

A call for proposals for a series of measures on the subject of telematics for urban areas (OJ No S 51 of 15.3.1994). Closes on 15.6.1994.

AIM (Advanced Informatics in Medicine):

A COPERNICUS call for RTD cooperation projects with Central and East European countries and the newly independent States of the former USSR (OJ No C 30 of 1.2.1994). Closed on 2.5.1994.

. DELTA (flexible and distance learning):

A call for proposals for telematics applications, launched by DG XIII, DG XII and TFHR (Task Force Human Resources, Education, Training and Youth) on 15 March 1994. Work will be undertaken in the framework of a one-year programme with a budget of ECU 3 million. Closes on 15.6.1994.

. DRIVE/ATT (Advanced Transport Telematics):

A call for accompanying and supporting actions (APAS, Actions de Promotion, d'Accompagnement et de Suivi) in the field of air transport, in cooperation with DG VII and DG XII (OJ No C 378 of 15.3.1994). Closes on 15.6.1994.

. LRE (Linguistic Research and Engineering):

A call for proposals was published in OJ No C 78 of 15.3.1994. Closes on 25.5.1994.

- BRITE/EURAM:

CRAFT:

The call for Step 1 proposals is now closed (this call was open on a continuous basis until December 1993). The proposers of accepted Step 1 projects may continue to submit Step 2 proposals until the final evaluation in mid-1994. Applications for CRAFT feasibility awards for SMEs can be made at any time.

. AERONAUTICS:

A call for proposals for exploratory actions in RTD in air transport, in conjunction with DG VII and DG XIII (OJ No C 78 of 15.3.1994). Closes on 15.6.1994.

- BCR (Measurement and testing):

A call for proposals closed on 15.4.1994 (OJ No C 338 of 15.12.1993). The selection procedure should be completed by July 1994.

- ENVIRONMENT:

The results of the last call, which closed on 17.7.1994 (under which some 50 projects were accepted) are available on RTD-News.

- MAST (Marine Science and Technology):

A call for proposals under the specific programme in the field of marine science and technology (MAST), for the assessment of risks and adverse impacts likely to affect the marine environment as a result of the use of marine technologies and techniques (OJ No S 51 of 15.3.1994). Closes on 29.6.1994.

- BIOTECH:

A call for proposals for scientific studies providing detailed information on specific aspects of the socio-economic impacts of biotechnology research (OJ No C 78 of 15.3.1994). Closes on 15.6.1994.

- AIR (Agriculture and Agro-Industry Research):

The third call for proposals is currently being evaluated and the selection is scheduled to be completed by the beginning of June.

- Human Capital and Mobility:

All calls are closed under this programme; projects in the final selection round are currently being evaluated.

- VALUE:

Projects for "Utilization of RTD Results" under Interface I are currently being evaluated, a process which will be completed at the end of the summer. The evaluation of projects for the Interfaces II and III call was completed at the end of April 1994.

- JOULE (RTD in the field of non-nuclear energy):

A call for various studies in the area of renewable energies (OJ No S 51 of 15.3.1994). Closes on 17.6.1994.

- JRC (Joint Research Centre):

. A call for tender to build an accurate software processor simulating the end-to-end data chain of ocean colour remote-sensing systems was published in OJ No S 80 of 26.4.1994. The closing date is 16.6.1994.

. The JRC at Karlsruhe has published a call for tenders for installation and maintenance work at the Transuranium Institute in OJ No S 80 of 26.4.1994. The closing date is 10.6.1994.

Other RTD-Related Programmes:

- SAVE (Elimination of CO2 emissions and increased energy efficiency) and ALTENER (Promotion of renewable energy resources):

Parties interested in participating in these two programmes should contact the national administrations (Ministry of Industry or Energy). Selection of projects is carried out by the Member States.

- TEDIS(Community programme for the establishment of trade electronic data interchange systems (1991-1994)):

Two calls closed on 11.4.1994: the Phase II progress assessment report and EDI development projects(OJ No C 24 of 28.1.1994).

- AVICENNE:

A call for proposals for preparatory actions to explore the possibilities of scientific and technological cooperation between the European Union and Mediterranean third countries in three areas of mutual interest, namely, waste water treatment, primary health care and renewable energies (OJ No S 72 of 14.4.1994). Closes on 15.7.1994.

- DG 1 (External relations):

. A call for tender for assistance to implement the following programmes: MED-URBS, MED-CAMPUS, MED-MEDIA, MED-INVEST and AVICENNE (OJ No S 62 of 30.3.1994). Closes on 20.5.1994.

. A call for proposals to improve cooperation between institutions of higher education in the EU and their counterparts in the Mediterranean non-member States (OJ No S 86 of 4.5.1994). Closes on 15.6.1994.

. An invitation to tender establishing "technology watch" services in Japan and the USA to support the current activities of analysis of ICT (information and communication technologies) industrial and technological evolution (OJ No C 110 of 20.4.1994). Closes on 6.6.1994.

- DG V (Employment, Industrial Relations and Social Affairs):

. A call for expressions of interest in providing consultancy services in social policy (OJ No C 31 of 2.2.1994).

. A call for proposals for studies relating to the results of EU research carried out under the first joint research programme on safety in the ECSC steel and mining industries (OJ No S 62 of 30.3.1994). Closes on 1.6.1994.

. A call for tenders for a study contract on the environmental impacts caused by the movement of passengers and goods in urban areas (OJ No S 56 of 22.3.1994). Closes on 23.5.1994.

- DG XII (Science, Research and Development):

. A call for proposals relating to one component of a pilot action in the field of open and distance learning. The call is made in coordination with related calls for proposals concerning those components of the action which are to be managed respectively by Directorate-General XIII and the Task Force Human Resources, Education, Training and Youth (TFHR)(OJ No S 51 of 15.3.1994). Closes on 15.6.1994.

. A tender for the supply of an automatic spectrometer for surface and depth profile analysis by means of glow discharge optical spectrometry (OJ No S 71 of 13.4.1994). Closes on 6.6.1994.

- DG XIII (Telecommunications, Information Market and Exploitation of Research)

. A call for proposals for exploratory actions in multimedia publishing (OJ No C 78 of 15.3.1994). Closes on 15.6.1994.

. Under the Impact II programme, DG XIII has undertaken a study of the legal and administrative obstacles to the development of the information services market (OJ No C 122 of 4.5.1994). Closes on 28.6.1994.

- TFHR:

A call for proposals relating to one component of a pilot action in the field of open and distance learning. The call is issued in coordination with related calls for proposals concerning those components of the action which are to be managed by Directorates-General XII and XIII (OJ No S 51 of 15.3.1994).
