The European Commission, DG III, has published a summary of ESPRIT projects entitled "Peripheral systems, business systems and house automation. Summaries of ESPRIT projects: ESPRIT II and III. December 1993". The book presents an overview of the work carried out in the peripheral systems, business systems and house automation area of the ESPRIT programme. Each project is described in a standard format covering its aims, technical content, progress, results, potential impact and current status. In each case, details of participating organizations are provided together with a list of partner names and a contact address. The peripheral systems, business systems and house automation area of ESPRIT is concerned with developing the strengths of European industry in IT systems designed to support office, business and home applications. Work in this area is determined by the evolving requirements of users. It aims to develop open integrated solutions to users' requirements in a variety of application domains in interrelated fields: professional and business applications; personal high-volume electronics; home systems. The solutions, integrating innovative multimedia and peripheral technologies, are illustrated with specific demonstrators or prototypes; their range of applicability is well beyond the boundaries of the test-bed on which their effectiveness is proved. This updated edition incorporates the progress and results reported since late 1992 and contains the first descriptions of the many new projects launched following the ESPRIT III call for proposals in 1993.
