Slovenia aims high with investment in knowledge
Slovenia aims to become one of the world's most successful countries in the world over the next 10 to 15 years, and investment in knowledge is the key to achieving this ambition, according to Prime Minister Janez Jansa. Mr Jansa was speaking at a press conference on the 15th anniversary of independence in Slovenia. His country's goal is to create the best possible environment for future generations to live, grow and prosper, with the perfect balance between economic efficiency, social justice and concern for the environment, he said. 'We have every opportunity to do this: the reforms to be implemented in the next few years will boost economic growth. By increasing our investment in knowledge, we will exploit our full creative potential, something that has not been explored enough, and by encouraging the very highest achievements in science and culture, we will gain in confidence yet further,' said the Prime Minister. Mr Jansa also welcomed the recent decision by the European Council allowing Slovenia to join the euro as 'one of the most beautiful gifts we could have for our 15th birthday'. 'We have proved that new members can also prosper within the EU, which provides a good basis for progress,' said Mr Jansa.
