CORDIS, the Community Research and Development Information Service, has launched a new Regional Research and Innovation Service for the Polish region of Wielkopolska. The service highlights the increasingly important link between R&D, innovation and regional policies. The new service provides information about the R&D and innovation environment in the region, and is designed as a central access point to information about activities. The Wielkopolska regional service introduces readers to the general characteristics of the region and its inter-regional cooperation activities, and provides more specific information on activities, achievements and infrastructures in the area of research and innovation. The main aim of the service is to explain the regional research strategy, which aims to exploit the strong research potential by means of implementing long term measures to generate economic growth based on research and innovative activities. To this end, it provides an overview of the region's strong research infrastructure, which boasts numerous universities, research and science institutes and other higher education institutions. Poznan, the regional capital, is also the seat of the Polish Academy of Sciences. More specific information on ongoing R&D activities in the region can be found via the CORDIS search engine, which allows users to carry out highly detailed searches for activities in a particular geographical area. A database maintained by the regional Science Officer is also made available in the Wielkopolska regional service. A specific section on EU RTD (research and technological development) activities highlights the European dimension of research in the Wielkopolska region.
