Belgium and Cuba have signed four Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) to increase scientific and cultural relations between the two countries. The agreements were signed during a visit to Havana on 2 November by Belgian officials from three federal scientific organisations. The first agreement was concluded between the Royal Institute of Artistic Heritage (IRPA) and Cuba's National Centre for Conservation, Restoration and Museums (CENCREM) for the development of joint educational activities. Two further agreements were signed on biodiversity between the Royal Institute of Natural Sciences and Cuba's Natural History Museum. Finally, an agreement was struck between the Belgian Royal Archives and the National Archives of Cuba to enhance professional contact and information exchange. The agreements were signed at the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Investment and Economic Cooperation, at the initiative of Belgium's Minister of Economy, Energy, Foreign Trade and Scientific Policy, Marc Verwilghen.
