A new cross-border dark fibre link has been established between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. The link has been put in place through the 'South Eastern European research and education networking 2' (SEEREN2) project. The connection will allow researchers within Bosnia and Herzegovina access to the high speed GÉANT2 network, and hence will facilitate the involvement of the country's scientists in research projects with a European dimension. The connection will also support the development of human resource exchange and transfer of networking know-how via cooperation with other academic communities in the Balkan peninsula and worldwide. The University of Banja Luka is the first beneficiary of the new link, and is already seeing the benefits of a Gigabit-lambda, with five intermediate points.
