Turin to host ESOF2010
The Italian city of Turin will host the Euroscience Open Forum in 2010, Euroscience has announced. Turin beat of strong bids from Copenhagen, Paris and Wroclaw with an entry which impressed the judges with its plan to use the web to extend ESOF's outreach beyond the physical ESOF location. 'Turin convinced the committee that its plans for reaching out beyond Turin and across Europe would provide the widest possible opportunity for dialogue between the citizens of Europe and the research community,' explained Peter Tindermans, Chair of the Selection Committee. 'The challenge provided by Copenhagen, Paris and Wroclaw was formidable. It is clear that Euroscience Open Forums have become a significant feature of the movement for greater dialogue between Europe's research community and its citizens.' Turin plans to host ESOF2010 in a former Fiat factory which has been transformed into a conference centre, symbolising the links between science, industry and design. The organisers hope it will underline the importance of investing in science and technology in the region, the country and Europe as a whole. The dates for ESOF2010 have also been set; it will run from 2 to 7 July 2010. Meanwhile preparations are well underway for the next edition of ESOF, which will be held in Barcelona in July 2008. The organisers are currently accepting proposals for both the scientific programme and outreach activities, and are particularly interested in events focusing on the themes of the event, which include science and art, science policy and energy security.
