A professional body for knowledge transfer professionals in the UK and Ireland will be launched in London in May. Almost 10,000 people are working on knowledge transfer in the two countries, where they are responsible for promoting the exchange and application of knowledge for the benefit of the economy and society. The Institute of Knowledge Transfer (IKT) will offer professional accreditation, help with career progression and promote best practice. 'The UK and Ireland lead the world in establishing this type of professional body,' commented IKT Chairman and President, Sir Brian Fender. 'Our aim is to give people working in knowledge transfer - whether in business, independent research, universities, public sector research organisations, or technology organisations - better career opportunities, widespread recognition for the value of what they do and the opportunity to involve themselves in networking with clients and colleagues around the world.' The new institute, which will run as an independent, not-for-profit organisation, has the backing of all the UK's major public and private sector organisations involved in knowledge transfer.
