Commission approves Dutch subsidy scheme for environmental technology
The European Commission has raised no objections to an aid scheme from the Dutch Government concerning a draft regulation for environmental technology grants. The regulation will replace the environmental technology promotion scheme approved by the Commission in December 1990. The present draft regulation is basically a modified continuation of the earlier scheme. The scheme will provide grants for the development and initial application of environment-friendly technologies by stimulating R&D, demonstration projects and the launching of new technologies on the market. The aid programmes are intended to encourage the development and practical application of new environmental technologies. The framework should make the procedures and conditions of subsidy programmes more transparent, consistent and efficient. The framework also contains rules concerning the dissemination of the results of the projects. Aid is given in the form of non-repayable grants to recipients comprising firms, universities, research institutes, engineering and advisory consultancies and local authorities. The budget for 1994 amounts to approximately HFL 15 million (ECU 6.9 million).
