Irish Government offers tech check-up to small businesses
The Irish Government has launched a new EUR 2 million 'Tech-Check' programme to help small businesses make better use of technology. Under the programme, small businesses will be eligible to apply to their city or county council for a technology check-up by an appointed independent expert. Based on their analysis, the independent expert will provide the business owner with an action-oriented and realistic strategy aimed at developing and deploying appropriate information and communication technology (ICT) skills, systems, hardware and software within the business. By helping them to make the right technological choices, the programme aims to boost productivity and profitability, and provide businesses with a real, sustainable competitive advantage. It is estimated that 2,000 individual businesses will benefit form the scheme each year. 'Small businesses often find it difficult to find the right type of technology for their businesses,' said Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Micheál Martin. 'The objective of this programme is to help them overcome this obstacle and identify solutions that are appropriate and specific to them - we must avoid over-engineered or over-spec'ed solutions. Tech-Check is designed to be a practical no-nonsense programme. We are not here to waste the time of small business owners.'
