Funding for stratospheric ozone research
In the framework of the Community's specific research and technological development programme on the environment, the European Commission supports stratospheric ozone research, including laboratory experiments, modelling, and instrument development. DG XII has now commenced new funding for further stratospheric ozone research under phase two of the environment programme. A balanced programme of field research, laboratory measurements and theoretical studies has been approved. A major component of the programme is the second European stratospheric arctic and mid-latitude experiment (SESAME), which will address the issue of polar and middle latitude ozone decline. A detailed planning document on SESAME, entitled "Stratospheric chemistry and ozone depletion", is now available.
