The Institute for Prospective Technological Studies at the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) has published a Prior Information Notice for a call for tenders for a study into soil conservation and policy measures. The Rural Development plan for the period 2007-2013 enables Member States to include appropriate agri-environmental measures and to implement them in order to encourage farmers to adopt soil conservation techniques. An EU-wide study will be carried out with the objective of analysing how farmers can be encouraged to adopt these techniques. The study will include approximately six case studies selected from the EU-27 that will focus on: - obtaining more details on application of soil conservation practices: extent of their application under the local environmental conditions and their effect on the environment, their economics particularly as a part of overall farm management; - in-depth understanding of policy implementation and governance of soil conservation in the broader local institutional context (rural development context). To see the full details of the call, please consult the following web address: http://ted.europa.eu/udl?uri=TED:NOTICE:123856-2007:TEXT:EN:HTML
