CORDIS launches Regional Research and Innovation Service for Lombardia
As part of its Regional Gateway service, CORDIS, the Community research and Development Information Service, has launched a Regional Research and Innovation Service for the Italian region of Lombardia. The service highlights important links between infrastructure, industry, innovation, and research and development (R&D) in this thriving area in the north of Italy. An introduction gives the reader a panoramic overview of the region. The geography and demography are described, together with the historical development of the region's industry and parallel evolution of its education system. Regional policy priorities and initiatives fostering the economic success and status of the region are outlined. A section dedicated to R&D gives in-depth information on the structure of the sector, linking it to Lombardy's leading position in the knowledge-based economy. Also incorporated are statistics relating to employment, the structure of the Regional Innovation System and the information society. An addendum to the R&D section provides a comprehensive list of the innovation and research establishments, including universities, other centres of excellence, and associations specifically geared towards the promotion of local industry and commerce. More broadly, the service also provides information on each stage in the life cycle of EU programmes and projects. Links give direct access to partners, projects and results databases. A map-based search interface also offers geographically-tailored access to this information. A 'What's New' page gives advanced details of R&D information events with a particular focus on the region of Lombardia. Finally, links to all regional actors involved in the development of R&D and economic development are presented. Categories range from local newspapers to organisations specialising in intellectual property rights, local authorities and promotional groups for industry and enterprise. The service was developed by CORDIS in cooperation with RegioneLombardia and Camera di Commercio di Milano with contributions from APRE, the Agenzia per la Promozione della Ricerca Europea, and the Euro Info Centre.
