The European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) has announced the 18 young scientists who will benefit from its 2007 Young Investigator Programme. Since 2000, recipients have been receiving academic, practical and financial support from EMBO. The three-year programme is designed to smooth the transition for young researchers setting up their first independent laboratories and developing their professional reputations. Benefits include lab management and non-scientific skills training, which are not usually available to early career scientists. 'Europe's young independent scientists are often not yet sufficiently established and have to fight hard for recognition and funding,' said manager of the programme Gerlind Wallon. This year's participants come from Austria, Belgium France, Germany, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the UK.
