AIDS programme extended
In a common position on the extension of the "Europe against AIDS" programme, the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union have decided to continue the programme until 31 December 1995 in the interest of continuity, and until a new multiannual programme is adopted. The decision also highlights the importance of encouraging cooperation between the Member States and their supporting activities. The amount of the Community contribution for the implementation of the programme extension is ECU 18 million. The extension of the "Europe against AIDS" programme will take the form of a plan of action covering the following areas: - Measures for children and young people; - Prevention of HIV transmission amongst particular groups; - Social and psychological support; - Gathering data on HIV and AIDS; - Combating discrimination; - Coordination with other programmes related to HIV/AIDS.
