An invitation to tender for a supply contract has been published by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre at Geel, Belgium. Under the restricted procedure, suppliers will be invited to tender for the contract. The product to be supplied is an analytical system based on the mass spectrometry of ions generated by an inductively coupled plasma for the determination of elements with mass numbers in the range of 6 to at least 244 in liquid samples. The system must include both hardware and software for the control of the complete analysis procedure and for processing of the measurement data. Possibilities must exist for qualitative, semi-quantitative and quantitative analysis. The computer system must be IBM-compatible with an option for a Ethernet adapter. It must exhibit an automatic sample-changing device for approximately 30 samples. The sample-introduction system must be installed inside an alpha-tight glove box, taking into account the general safety considerations for working with radioactive material. More detailed technical specifications will accompany invitations to tender. The contract will be awarded as a single lot. Besides compliance with the technical specifications, the following criteria will be applied: detection limits; user-friendliness of control and analysis software; training possibilities; maintenance contracts; warranties.
