The European Commission has published an open call for tender for expertise and technical support in the fields of public health and health and safety in the workplace. New responsibilities entrusted to the European Commission in the matter of public health (and health and safety in the workplace) by the Union Treaty and a continuing increase in budget funding for these fields will be attended by a significant increase in the number of files requiring evaluation and follow-up. In order to meet its obligations, the Health and Safety Directorate (DG V) will call on one or more external consulting firms to provide technical support in the following fields: - Public health (policy and analysis); - Promotion, education and training in the field of health; - Medical data, health yardsticks, control and follow-up of diseases; - Cancer; - Drugs; - AIDS and other communicable diseases; - Accidents and voluntary and involuntary injuries; - Diseases related to pollution; - Rare diseases; - Legislative action in the field of health and safety; - International cooperation; - Occupational diseases; - Safety protection, health and hygiene in the workplace, and prevention of occupational diseases; - Prevention of accidents in the workplace. The following activities are required in the above fields: - Preparation of reports and work documents, including specialized documentation; - Participation in technical meetings and preparation of related documents and reports; - Preparation of evaluation files for project proposals submitted to the Commission; - Data input and utilization, management and development of databases in the field of public health (management of funding requests, of expression-of-interest files, and of data emanating from organizations specialized in the fight against drug abuse and AIDS); - Technical-secretariat services for documents prepared by experts; - Scientific/technical advice in the fields of health and safety (hygienist, chemist, work inspector, sociologist); - Tracking of work done by national and international bodies, non-governmental specialized organizations, contractors and the beneficiaries of programme funding.
