The European Commission's Statistical Office has published a call for tender for market studies and sampling for work in the statistical field.

The contract concerns work on the framework programme for priority actions in the field of statistical information, 1993-1997 (Council Decision 93/464/EEC, OJ No L 219 of 28.8.1993).

The theme of the contract is that Community statistical information must be made available to the final users through the body closest to them, which they normally consult, and with the necessary advice in their own language.

Accordingly, it has been agreed to set up between the Commission and the Members States' statistical services a network for disseminating Community statistical information. Setting up this network will call for major preparatory work in defining dissemination policies with all the practical implications, such as tariffs, access to/supply of information, user-friendliness, etc.

The contract will be divided into five lots:

- National statistical institutes (NSIs);
- Eurostat catalogue;
- Press releases programme;
- Production of a periodical on Community statistics;
- Eurostat yearbook and general publications.

Firms may bid for one or more lots.
