The Marine Environment (ME) Unit and the Monitoring of Tropical Vegetation (MTV) Unit of the Institute for Remote Sensing Applications of the Joint Research Centre (Ispra) have planned to reprocess a 12-year archive of satellite data from the NOAA satellites covering Africa and adjacent oceans. The aim of the reprocessing is to build up data archives of surface and atmospheric parameters used for the units' research activities. The units therefore require expertise of development and testing of the necessary algorithms for deriving a range of atmospheric, cloud, ocean and land parameters from satellite data. The theory of deriving the parameters, the demonstration of their derivation and the validation of the parameters are the fundamental topics of this study. Provision of software is not foreseen. The work is likely to be carried out over two years. Tender documentation may be requested from: European Commission Joint Research Centre Mr. R. G.
