The Council has published its Decision of 18 July 1994 concerning the conclusion of a Cooperation Agreement between the European Community and the Republic of India on partnership and development. The Agreement covers economic and commercial cooperation in the areas of: - Energy; - Telecommunications, electronics, and information and satellite technologies; - Standards; - Intellectual property; - Investment; - Agriculture and fisheries; - Tourism; - Science and technology; - Information and culture; - Development cooperation; - Environment; - Human resource development; - Drug abuse control. In the area of scientific and technological cooperation, the Agreement covers the fields of life sciences, biotechnology, new materials and geo and marine sciences, with a view to: - Fostering the transfer of know-how and stimulating innovation; - Disseminating information and expertise in science and technology. This will be implemented through: - Joint research projects between the Contracting Parties' research centres and other appropriate institutions; - Exchange and trading of scientists and researchers, particularly to promote the establishment of permanent links between the scientific and technical communities of the Contracting Parties; - Exchange of scientific information.
