First notice of BRITE/EURAM call for proposals

On 27 July 1994 the Council adopted the specific programme for research and technological development in the field of industrial and materials technologies (BRITE/EURAM III) (OJ No L 222 of 26.8.1994).

To avoid delays in implementing the programme and to allow the coordination of the research activities of the programme, in particular in area 3 (technologies for transport means), and in areas 1 and 2 relating to flexible manufacturing, the Commission has published the first notice of a call for proposals.

For this purpose it has identified a number of research areas to be covered by the call. These research areas will be carried out by means of shared cost contracts for research and technological development. There are specific actions foreseen for small and medium-sized enterprises.

The areas in question are:

Area 1: Production technologies:
- Incorporation of new technologies into production systems;
- Development of clean production technologies;
- Rational management of raw materials;
- Safety and reliability of production systems;
- Human and organizational factors within production systems;

Area 2: Materials and technologies for product innovation:
- Material engineering;
- New methodologies for product design and manufacture;
- Reliability and quality of materials and products;
- Technologies for recovering products at the end of their lifecycle;

Area 3: Technologies for transport means:

Area 3A: Aeronautics technologies:
- Aircraft design and systems integration;
- Aircraft production;
- Technologies to improve aircraft efficiency;
- Environmental technologies;
- Technologies for aircraft safety;
- Technologies for aircraft operation;

Area 3b: Technologies for surface transport means;
- Vehicle design and systems integration;
- Vehicle production;
- Technologies to improve vehicle efficiency;
- Environmental technologies;
- Technologies for vehicle safety;
- Technologies for vehicle operation.

The first notice of the call for proposals is published in order for those interested to have sufficient time to prepare proposals. Proposals may be sent following the official call for proposals published in the Official Journal on 15 December 1994. The deadline for the submission of industrial and basic RTD projects is 15 March 1995.
