The European Defence Agency (EDA) has published a call for tenders for a feasibility study on the use of satellites in the integration of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and European airspace. In past years, various institutional stakeholders have started to address the challenges of integrating UAS in non-segregated airspace. Before embarking on a full-fledged demonstration project, the feasibility study will need to provide insights into major technical challenges and requirements, as well as the viability of sustainable UAS services, supported by space systems. Specifically, the objectives of the study are: - to determine the feasibility and the overall planning of a UAS mission; - to provide a detailed investigation of the viability of selected solutions in view of developing future services based on UAS-supported by satellite systems; - to identify the investments necessary in the future and the next steps required in technical and regulatory terms to effectively establish such a service solution and provide an associated roadmap in support of specific civil/security/military services development. For further information, please contact: European Defence Agency rue des Drapiers 17-23 Attn: Contracting Unit B-1050 Brussels E-mail: procurement@eda.europa.eu Fax: +32 2 504 2975 To see the full details of the call, please consult the following web address: http://ted.europa.eu/udl?uri=TED:NOTICE:205389-2009:TEXT:EN:HTML
