Council reaches agreement on eight specific programmes
At its meeting on 29 September 1994, the Research Council reached agreement on eight specific programmes implementing the Fourth Framework Programme for research and technological development and demonstration (1994-1998). The eight specific programmes are: - Information technologies: - Telematics; - Measurements and testing; - Agriculture and fisheries; - Marine sciences and technologies; - Cooperation with third countries; - Non-nuclear energies; - Thermonuclear fusion. With the exception of the programme concerning thermonuclear fusion, the formal adoption of these programmes will occur as soon as the preparation of the texts of the programmes in all official European Union languages is completed. The specific programme concerning thermonuclear fusion awaits the opinion of the European Parliament before it can be formally adopted. This brings to ten the number of specific programmes on which the Council has agreed. On 27 June 1994, the Council agreed on the specific programmes dealing with industrial and materials technologies (BRITE/EURAM III) and advanced communications technologies and services (ACTS). Both have now been formally adopted. The date for the publication in the Official Journal of calls for tender for these specific programmes is 15 December 1994. The work programmes for each of the adopted programmes will become available in the coming weeks and details will be carried on RTD-News. Ten specific programmes remain to be adopted by the Council. This will take place when the European Parliament Committee on Research, Technological Development and Energy (CRTDE) has given its opinion. The Council, Parliament and Commission are working towards the objective of adopting all specific programmes before the end of 1994 which marks the conclusion of current framework programmes. The next scheduled Research Council meeting is on 1 December 1994.
