The European Commission is issuing a call for proposals for the Erasmus University Charter 2011. The Erasmus University Charter (EUC) provides the general framework for European cooperation activities which a higher education institution (HEI) may carry out within the Erasmus Programme as part of the Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP). The awarding of an EUC is also a prerequisite for an HEI to be able to organise student mobility and teaching and other staff mobility projects, carry out Erasmus intensive language courses and intensive programmes, apply for multilateral projects, networks or accompanying measures, and organise preparatory visits. The Erasmus University Charter is based on the Lifelong Learning Programme Decision which covers the 2007 - 2013 period. The EUC and the Erasmus Programme are named after the humanist and theologian Desiderius Erasmus of Rotterdam (1465-1536) whose travels for work and study took in great European centres of learning, including Paris, Leuven and Cambridge. Like the man, the Erasmus Programme places great importance on mobility and furthering career prospects through learning. To see the full details of the call, please consult: OJ C95 of 15 April 2010(opens in new window)
