The European Commission has published a call for proposals for Transatlantic Degree Partnerships under the EU-Canada Programme for Co-operation in Higher Education, Training and Youth Transatlantic Exchange Partnerships. The general objectives this call are to promote mutual understanding between the peoples of the European Union and Canada including broader knowledge of their languages, cultures and institutions and to improve the quality of human resources in the European Union and Canada. There are two types of actions under this call: Transatlantic Exchange Partnerships and Transatlantic Degree Partnerships programmes. For Transatlantic Exchange Partnerships (TEP) project support is provided to enable EU-Canada consortia of higher education institutions and training institutions, to carry out joint study and training programmes and to implement student and faculty mobility. Support includes support for administration, grants for students and members of the academic and administrative staff. The maximum duration of TEP projects is 36 months. For Transatlantic Degree Partnerships (TDP) support is provided to develop and implement dual/double or joint degree programs. Support includes support for the development work and administration, grants for students and members of the academic and administrative staff. The maximum duration of TDP projects is 48 months. EU/Canada co-operation in education and training was made possible under the Canada/EU Co-operation Agreement in November 1995. Renewed in 2000 and then expanded in 2006, the current agreement is running until 2013. The latest Agreement enables the continuation of activities such as the development of curricula, international internships, exchanges and study abroad with provision for credit recognition. At the end of 2009, a total of 97 transatlantic consortia have been funded involving over 590 EU and Canadian institutions of higher education and training and no less than 4,400 students and learners, faculty and staffs. To see the official call announcement in the Official Journal of the European Union please consult: OJ No C 323 of 30 November 2010(opens in new window)
