COST approves actions in Estonia and Lithuania
The 116th meeting of the Senior Officials Committee for Scientific and Technical Research (COST) took place on 13-14 October 1994 in Brussels. COST coordinates the national research actions of 25 member States (the 12 EU Member States, Austria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Finland, Hungary, Iceland, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, and Turkey). At present, 112 actions are under way. The Commission presented a report on the state of preparation of the COST conference which will take place in Basle on 9-11 October 1995. In the framework of granting permission to R&D institutes from non-member countries to participate in COST actions, the Committee approved the participation of institutes in Estonia and Lithuania. Israel has also expressed an interest in participating in two actions in the field of agro-biotechnology. The Committee gave its approval to the extension of two actions in the field of nutritional fibres and the creation and diffusion of technologies. The Committee also approved two new actions in the fields of protective helmets for motorcyclists and human development. It also approved in principle a variety of actions in the fields of rural structures, information technology, medical applications, telecommunications, and urban development. The next Committee meeting will take place in Brussels on 26-27 January 1995.
