As part of the European Metrology Research Programme, the European Association of National Metrology Institutes (EANMI) has announced a call for proposals for potential metrology research topics. The European Metrology Research Programme (EMRP) is a metrology-focused European programme of coordinated research and development that facilitates closer integration of national research programmes. The EMRP is jointly supported by the European Commission and the participating countries within the EANMI. The programme can trace its origins to research carried out in 2002 and 2003. At that time, a number of European national metrological institutes (NMIs) examined the structure and approach to top-level metrology in Europe. This study was prompted by the challenges of supporting emerging technologies such as nanotechnology and biotech, providing increased support to non-traditional health, food, environment, energy and security. A key outcome of the research was to propose significantly increased collaboration in metrology research between NMIs and other designated institutes in Europe. Planning the implementation was conducted in a larger coordination project named 'Implementing metrology in the European Research Area' (Imera). The European Metrology Research Programme is part of this and was launched in 2007.To see the full details of the call, please consult: http://www.emrponline.eu/call2011/(opens in new window)
