The 'Facilitating research and co-operation between Europe and New Zealand' (Frenz) has issued a call for novel approaches to addressing genetic and environmental factors associated with diabetes and obesity. Frenz is a joint initiative between the New Zealand Ministry of Science and Innovation (MSI) and the European Commission (EC) to enhance the engagement of the New Zealand research, science and technology community with the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7). The call will bring together diverse groups of researchers from both Europe and New Zealand for intensive, four day workshops to explore novel research solutions to real life problems. In each case, the aim will be to appeal to researchers from a broad range of disciplines, to work outside their normal comfort zone, and approach problem solving in a deliberately creative way to identify project ideas that have the potential to answer multi-faceted research questions. The call will involve up to sixteen stakeholders from Europe and New Zealand, with the research proposal outcomes being fed into the relevant policy making processes, and a view toward establishing closer EU-New Zealand collaborative research relationships in the future. To see the further details of the call, please consult: http://www.frenz.org.nz/Sandpits/Sandpit2DiabetesandObesity.aspx(opens in new window)
