Call for tenders for a study on the blending of biofuels with fossil fuels and other ways to market biofuels
The European Commission has published a call for tenders for a study on the blending of biofuels with fossil fuels and other ways to market biofuels. The Renewable Energy Directive, adopted in 2009, has a 10% target for each Member State for the share of energy from renewable sources in transport in 2020. As part of this, Member States have submitted National Renewable Energy Action Plans on how to reach this target. The study will provide an analysis of implementation of these plans by Member States in terms of bringing biofuels on the market up to 2020. On this basis, it should identify and assess potential roads for a possible EU-coordinated approach. The analysis should focus on the years up to 2020 and, where relevant, highlight the appropriate time when certain issues may be of relevance. Longer-term perspectives should be considered, comparing the different ways to further market biofuels. The work will include the following tasks: - analysis of Member States' implementation; - potential of existing blending limits and fully fungible biofuels; - identification and screening of potential ways to further market biofuels; - engine efficiency; - stakeholder/expert meeting; - in-depth analysis of potential ways to market biofuels. To see the official call announcement, please consult: OJ No S 115 of 17 June 2011(opens in new window)
