Call for tenders for assessment of scenarios and options towards a resource-efficient Europe
The European Commission has published a call an assessment of scenarios and options towards a resource-efficient Europe. Renewed efforts are needed to ensure that Europe is moving towards a more sustainable way of using resources. The Europe 2020 Strategy establishes resource efficiency as one of its fundamental flagship initiatives for ensuring the smart, sustainable and inclusive growth of Europe. Resource efficiency helps ensure that non-renewable resources in society and in nature do not become depleted or degraded beyond sustainable levels. The objective of this study will be to provide the Commission with technical assistance by: - identifying inefficient uses of resources that cut across different sectors and policy areas; - quantitatively assessing the potential for and effects of efficiency improvements within systems or resulting from single changes in resource use, where possible, in the timeframe up until 2050 and with intermediate steps for 2020 and 2030, while paying attention to implications for the EU and for Member States. To see the official call announcement, please consult: OJ No S 121 of 28 June 2011(opens in new window)
