Call for transportation-related proposals
The European Commission has published a call for transportation-related proposals. The call deals with a variety of topics under the headings of safe and seamless mobility, competitiveness through innovation and the European Green Cars Initiative. It specifically supports initiatives in the following topic areas: - 'Towards an implementation of the NAIADES Action Areas'; - 'Impacts of Intelligent Transport Systems on Vulnerable Road Users'; - 'E-Maritime in support of Compliance Management'; - 'Demonstration of Urban Freight Electric Vehicles for Clean City Logistics'; - 'Demonstration of Heavy Duty Vehicles Running with Liquefied Methane'; - 'Forum to Help Implement the Future Orientation of the Overall Transport System as Defined by the White Paper'; - 'Strategic High-level Transport Model'. Research in safe and seamless mobility helps in the development and demonstration of door-to-door transport for people and goods as well as technologies and systems. Activities will aim at European-wide strategies, optimised use of infrastructure including terminals and specialised networks, improved transport, traffic and information management, enhanced freight logistics, passenger intermodality and modal shift strategies to encourage energy efficient means of transport. Improving the competitiveness of transport industries is a part of the call. This means ensuring sustainable, efficient and affordable transport services and creating new skills and job opportunities by research and developments. Technologies for advanced industrial processes will include design, manufacturing, assembly, construction and maintenance and will aim to decrease life cycle costs and development lead times. Another part of the call concerns the European Green Cars Initiative. It funds research that focuses on electric vehicle technologies seen as part of the rest of the transport system: a massive introduction of the technology requires the availability of smart electricity grids and intelligent vehicle charging systems tailored to customers' needs. The call also provides for cross-cutting activities. To see the official call announcement, please consult: http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:C(opens in new window): 2011:213:0024:0026:EN:PDF (OJ No C 213 of 20 July 2011) and the following link(opens in new window)
