The European Commission has published a call for proposals under the ERC Synergy Grant programme. Major advances in science can emerge from a wide variety of settings. Individual principal investigators and their teams have, for example, consistently proven to be a valuable source of new ideas. These small research groups are frequently built around interdisciplinary problems and shared facilities and have gained increasing notoriety for their work. European Research Council (ERC) Synergy Grants are intended to enable a small group of principal investigators and their teams to bring together complementary skills, knowledge, and resources in new ways, in order to jointly address research problems. The aim is to promote substantial advances in the frontiers of knowledge, and to encourage new productive lines of enquiry and new methods and techniques, including unconventional approaches and investigations at the interface between established disciplines. To see the official call announcement, please consult: OJ No C 312 of 25 October 2011(opens in new window) and the following link(opens in new window)
