IDEA contact database for all EU institutions
In early 1995 the European Union will be launching the IDEA database providing contact details for all EU institutions. The database is being produced by the Office for Official Publications of the European Communities in Luxembourg and will be hosted on ECHO (European Community Host Organization) in an experimental phase. The IDEA database (Interinstitutional Directory of European Administrations) will contain the directories of the following European institutions: - European Investment Bank; - Court of Justice; - Court of Auditors; - European Commission; - European Parliament; - Council of the European Union; - Economic and Social Committee. When new EU institutions are added at a later stage, these will also be included. The information provided will include name and title, institution and function, languages spoken and contact details. Additional information on Members of the European Parliament will cover date and place of birth, region represented and date of election, supplemented by a brief biography. The database aims to contribute towards improving the transparency of the work of the European Union, as it will enable the general public to locate the official they need in order to obtain information on a particular area of European policy. It is particularly aimed at interest groups, consultants, press agencies and journalists. IDEA will be multilingual, with the contents available in all the official EU languages.
