The European Commission has published a call for tenders for maritime transport greenhouse gas data collection and management. In an effort to help the European Commission which is currently reviewing its options and potential policies in the area of emissions and maritime transport, this call will provide support during the preparation of a proposal for monitoring, reporting and verifying greenhouse gas emissions from individual ships. Greenhouse gases from shipping have increased in recent years. They are also expected to increase in the near future. Notably, international shipping is the only sector and transport mode which does not yet have EU emissions reduction targets. The work planned under this call will consist of six individual tasks: - development of a monitoring approach; - development of management, reporting and verification procedures; - requirements and specifications for registers and databases; - requirements for verifiers; - electronic data interchange; - consultation workshops. To see the official call announcement, please consult: OJ No S 98 of 24 May 2012
