The Commission has approved an operation enabling Cable and Wireless plc, a supplier of telecommunications services, and Schlumberger Ltd, which supplies services in connection with oil and gas exploration, to set up Omnes, a joint venture which will provide telecommunication and related IT support services, initially to companies in the upstream oil and gas sector and eventually more widely. The service is intended to be of particular value to companies which have sites in remote locations. The service provided by Omnes will be the SINet system which Schlumberger currently uses as its internal telecommunication and IT support function.
