The Technology Development Centre (TEKES) of Finland has published a preliminary issue of "Telematics Profile: Finland".

The publication presents an introduction to the Finnish telecommunications sector and the services which have evolved in the following areas:

- Administrations;
- Transport;
- Research;
- Education and training;
- Libraries;
- Urban and rural areas;
- Healthcare;
- Disabled and elderly people;
- Environment;
- Telematics engineering;
- Language engineering
- Information engineering;
- Programme support actions.

The issue contains a list of contacts for each of the areas which are covered, in addition to relevant information on the Fourth Framework Programme.

Finnish telecommunications networks have evolved into a multi-operator environment, which has created a lot of pressure on the technical development of the networks. Technical development of the networks has also influenced the development of the telecommunication equipment industry in Finland.
