The European Commission has published its Call for Twinning. This new call comes under the Horizon 2020 specific pillar 'Spreading excellence and widening participation'. With this call the European Commission aims to address networking gaps and deficiencies between research institutions in Europe. It is expected to strengthen a defined field of research in a particular university, public research organisation or private non-profit research organisation by linking this institution with at least two internationally-leading research institutions in other Member States. Twinning proposals will have to clearly outline the scientific strategy for stepping up and stimulating scientific excellence and innovation capacity in a defined area of research, as well as the scientific quality of the partners involved in the exercise. The set of measures shall include the likes of short term staff exchanges; expert visits and training; workshops and conferences and joint summer schools. The Commission also emphasises that the impact of these actions should be measurable, for example through an increase of peer-reviewed publications. The Commission will grant a budget of EUR 1 million to the accepted proposals. Nonetheless, this does not preclude the submission and selection of proposals requesting other amounts. To see the official call announcements, please consult: Participant Portal(opens in new window)
