The European Commission, DG XIII, has published a report on "The Community Innovation Survey", presenting the objectives of the survey and the most recent initiatives carried out within its area of application. The aim of the Community Innovation Survey (CIS), which is a joint action by SPRINT's European Innovation Monitoring System (EIMS) and Eurostat, is to provide data for analysis on the following: - Primary characteristics and objectives of, and obstacles to, innovation activity at company level; - Innovation outputs, in the form of data on the introduction of new products and their contributions to the turnover and export of firms; - Data relevant to company performance, such as levels of growth and output, export and employment. The resulting information will be used to provide reliable, harmonized and comparable innovation data in order to improve the understanding of the innovation process and technology transfer of European enterprises.
